Roman Reigns went to war at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas—but what most fans didn’t know going in was just how personal it really was for The Tribal Chief.
Before stepping into the ring against CM Punk and Seth Rollins in Saturday night’s triple threat main event, Roman spoke with Daniel Cormier for ESPN and revealed that he had 40 of his own family members in the building to witness the match live. “I got 40… 40 family members. All family. I’ve never had this much family that’s not actually in the business here to watch me and support me,” he said.
Roman added that last year, during WrestleMania 40, many of his family members—including his father Sika and uncle Afa—were absent due to illness. “Last year was huge for me, but unfortunately my father and my uncle passed away through the summer,” Roman said. “They were on their last days, so my family had to cancel. Thank God we were able to recycle everything and just make it happen this year.”
With his extended family in the stands, Roman said he didn’t want to just “show out”—he wanted to deliver a performance that captured his entire journey. “I just want to go in there and dial in and give them the best Roman Reigns they’ve ever seen. Take all those hard nights on the road, all those times wrestling in front of 2,000 people—or even just two people when I started—and ball them up into one night.”
That night didn’t end with his hand raised. In a wild finish that saw Paul Heyman turn on both Punk and Reigns, Seth Rollins cashed in his favor and left WrestleMania with the victory. Still, Roman made it clear that this weekend was about more than gold—it was about legacy.
