Roman Reigns knows a thing or two about being at the very top of WWE, since he’s been in that position for several years. However, Reigns has now claimed that WWE doesn’t actually build around a #1 anymore.
While speaking on the Pat McAfee Show, Roman Reigns explained that there’s no such thing as doing “the right thing” in WWE because it’s a place where everyone is fighting to survive and succeed.
The OTC compared it to being in the ocean, saying there isn’t enough space for everyone, you have to fight for what’s yours and take your opportunity when it comes.
“The right thing in WWE? That doesn’t make sense — that’s like trying to be the good guy in the ocean. You wanna be Rose or Jack? You wanna live or not? There’s not enough room in WWE, there’s not enough real estate. You have to get what’s yours, and that’s what I’m teaching these guys — you have to take it now.”
Reigns added that, unlike Hollywood where people might support a clear top star, WWE is full of competitors all trying to claim the top spot. Reigns noted that no one is concerned about how well others are doing; everyone wants to be number one.
The Tribal Chief added that it’s not about making others look good, it’s about earning your place and reaching the top on your own since WWE doesn’t build around a number one anymore.
“They’re saying Hollywood. Cody can try to put it there, I can try, but everyone’s trying to take these spots. Everyone’s trying to come up, and no one cares if you’re doing good today. That’s what WWE is. It’s not like Hollywood where they put a number on us and everyone serves the top spot. Everyone here wants to be #1 or #2 — they don’t care if I look good. They just want the good look. They want to be in the promised land. It’s not the title, it’s the space I’m speaking of.”
Roman Reigns made it clear that in today’s WWE, success isn’t given since you have to earn it. The locker room is full of talented wrestlers who are all working hard to build their own legacies. Reigns’ time as the “Head of the Table” shows what it takes to be on top and pushes others to step up and prove themselves and so we’ll have to see if others will take his advice as well.
