The Rock isn’t just appearing in WWE’s upcoming Netflix docuseries Unreal—he’s had a hand in shaping how it all looks.

New details have surfaced about the five-part series, set to premiere on July 29, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s involvement goes far beyond just being in front of the camera. According to sources via Post Wrestling, Johnson’s team provided feedback and notes for the episodes where he appears, ensuring his portrayal—and likely the surrounding storylines—met his standards.

The docuseries, co-produced by Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions and NFL Films, promises to give fans an unprecedented backstage look at WWE, with many comparing it to HBO’s Hard Knocks. But it’s The Rock’s influence that’s already grabbing attention before the first episode even drops.

The former WWE Champion is featured in Episode 4, which focuses on John Cena’s shocking heel turn at the Elimination Chamber event, as well as The New Day’s heel turn. WWE President Nick Khan also appears in the episode, but behind the scenes, The Rock’s fingerprints are all over the production.

Triple H is also heavily involved, providing narration and an introduction for the series. But when it comes to shaping the narrative, The Rock’s team made sure their client’s legacy—and screen time—came off exactly how they wanted.

The series will also feature moments from WWE’s RAW premiere on Netflix, Royal Rumble matches, women’s division highlights, and WrestleMania 41. Filming began last year around WrestleMania 40 and ramped up significantly last November. A second set of episodes is already being filmed for a 2026 release.
