Cody Rhodes just gave The Rock his flowers—and he thinks fans haven’t seen anything yet.
During his appearance on All The Smoke, the Undisputed WWE Champion was asked to name his personal Mount Rushmore of pro wrestling legends. Without hesitation, Rhodes included Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson—and then went on to praise his most recent WWE persona, The Final Boss.
“I think The Rock is on there, Mount Rushmore-wise. He came back to a very tumultuous WWE, a year or so ago, and decided, nope, I’m not gonna deal with that. I’m instead gonna create a new character even though I’m already one of the greatest characters ever, that being The Final Boss.”
Rhodes said that even though The Rock is one of the most recognizable entertainers on the planet, his Final Boss persona feels like a fresh start—a side of Johnson that fans have barely seen.
“We’ve just scratched the surface on The Final Boss. There’s something incredibly special there, so The Rock is on my Mount Rushmore.”
The timing of Rhodes’ comments comes as The Rock continues to stay away from WWE television. Johnson made waves at the Venice Film Festival in September, revealing a striking 60-pound weight loss as he preps for his upcoming film collaboration with Martin Scorsese. The project—a Hawaii-set crime epic described as “The Departed meets Goodfellas”—will star The Rock alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Emily Blunt.
Between that and his recent work on The Smashing Machine, it’s clear Johnson’s Hollywood commitments have taken priority. Sources don’t expect a WWE return anytime soon, but if Cody’s comments are anything to go by, The Final Boss may still have unfinished business when he does.
Do you agree with Cody Rhodes putting The Rock on his Mount Rushmore? And do you think The Final Boss gimmick has more to offer when The Rock returns? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
