Paul Heyman turning on Roman Reigns and CM Punk and aligning himself with Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 41 was something that truly shocked the world of professional wrestling. While many fans hated the fact that Heyman betrayed Reigns, it appears The Rock feels differently.
While speaking on the Pat McAfee Show, The Rock revealed his reaction to the first night’s main event and Heyman betraying Roman Reigns, saying he really enjoyed how it played out. Although he knew the ending ahead of time, he chose not to learn how they would get there so he could enjoy watching the story unfold. He felt it was exactly what it needed to be.
The Final Boss talked about Paul Heyman’s deep history in the wrestling business, mentioning that he’s known Paul since he was a kid. According to The Rock, Paul has always had a strong passion and sharp mind for wrestling, and he appreciated how everything was executed, especially how the story came down to Paul and Seth Rollins, which sets up an exciting direction.
“The first night’s main event, the finish of that main event? I loved it. I loved every second of it. I know the finishes of what’s gonna happen, but I don’t wanna know how they get there. So I was watching it and watched how they got there—and I loved it. I thought it was exactly what it needed to be.
Paul, in a way, has been raised in this business, loves this business. I knew him way back in the day when he was a kid. His passion for the business goes way back, and his intellect goes way back. He’s a big thinker, and I loved how it went down. I loved that it came down to Seth and Paul, and what that’s gonna look like.”
The Rock also praised Roman Reigns for showing up in incredible shape and continuing to improve each year. He believes people calling Roman a part-timer only motivates him to prove himself even more and carry the company on his back.
The Rock showed love for Seth Rollins as well, pointing out how much Seth continues to evolve. When The Rock told Cody he wanted his title and his soul, Seth took it further by saying he didn’t just want Cody’s soul, he wanted the World Title instead. That simple line made a big impact on The Rock, who appreciated the depth and power in everyone’s performances that night.
“Shoutout to Roman—he came in in incredible shape, and I think every year he is dialing it in more and more. I think the idea that people call him a part-timer fuels the fire in him to show you, ‘Man, I’m a lot of things, and you wanna call me a part-timer, but the company is still on my back—watch what I do.’
I love Seth Rollins and what he did. What I love about Seth is you can continue to see how much he can grow. When I told Cody a month and a half ago, ‘Hey, I want your title, I want your soul,’ Seth followed it up by saying, ‘I don’t want your soul—I need it.’ As simple as he made it, he made it powerful, and I loved what they all did on Saturday.”
Of course, Paul Heyman and Seth Rollins were joined by Bron Breakker as they all destroyed Roman Reigns and CM Punk on the April 21st edition of Monday Night Raw.
The Rock praised how well WWE pulled off one of its biggest story twists, and now things are heating up for the next part of the story. With friendships being questioned and sides changing, fans are excited to see what happens next.
