Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson just got raw about one of the most heartbreaking chapters of his life — the final weeks before his father, Rocky Johnson, passed away.

During a conversation on Artist Friendly with Joel Madden, The Rock admitted he was in the middle of a fallout with his dad and never got the chance to make peace before he died.

It all started with a blowout fight during Christmas 2019 — something Johnson described as one of the worst arguments they’d ever had. The fight turned into silence between them, and then… it was too late.

“We got into this huge fight Christmas 2019… it was awful. One of the biggest fights we ever got into about some just some stupid [stuff]… and then about a month later, he passed away. And we weren’t talking.”

That moment haunted him, especially after realizing he’d missed a phone call from his father just days before his death.

“He called me and I didn’t take the call… I was at my kid’s game. I thought, ‘I’ll call him back.’ And then like a day or two later, he’s gone.”

Johnson confessed he still has his dad’s number saved in his favorites and even kept a voicemail — small reminders of a man who shaped his life in complicated ways.

But what surprised him most was the shift he felt after his father passed. Rather than feeling a sense of finality, Johnson described a spiritual closeness that caught him off guard.

“It’s weird—it’s like your father always goes before you… even in death. And something happened when he passed away… I feel like we’re closer than we ever were when he was here.”

Johnson says that kind of emotional and spiritual reconciliation changed his view of the past — and his own identity. He believes that even though they didn’t get full closure, the love was still there.

“We still ended it with, ‘Alright, I love you. Love you too.’ Which was good, man. But I never looked at it like that… I feel like we got to a good place.”

This part of the conversation wasn’t about fame or fortune — it was about what happens when success can’t undo the pain of missed goodbyes. Johnson reminded everyone that at the end of the day, no amount of success can replace real human connection.

Even one of the biggest stars on the planet still carries the pain of unresolved family moments. But The Rock’s story is a reminder that forgiveness, growth, and love can still find their way — even when the clock runs out.
