Rob Van Dam isn’t shutting the door on WWE, but he’s making it clear that if he ever returns, it won’t come with a farewell label attached.
During an appearance on TMZ Inside the Ring, the WWE Hall of Famer was asked about his future in wrestling and whether he would be open to returning to WWE if the company reached out. With WrestleMania season in full swing and several veterans making appearances across WWE programming and events, the hosts brought up the idea of retirement-style runs and whether RVD would consider finishing his career that way.
Van Dam made it clear that he isn’t closing off any opportunities and would be willing to at least listen if WWE came calling.
“Um, I am open to consider anything. That’s part of being open-minded. You know, I try not to shut anything out without at least considering it. And when it comes to something like that, they got my number. They can talk to me. As you know, I’ll be appearing at Wrestle WWE World also… yeah, we talked about that 420, remember?”
That statement alone leaves plenty of room for speculation about a possible appearance or future role, especially with WWE continuing to feature legends and past champions during major event weeks. However, when the conversation turned to retirement tours — something several veterans have embraced in recent years — Van Dam showed a very different outlook. Rather than planning a farewell run or announcing a final chapter ahead of time, he explained that he prefers to let his career unfold naturally without labeling the end.
“But as far as a retirement tour — unless I change my perspective, which always happens — you’re always looking at everything from a different place in life if you keep going… but the way I feel now is like I don’t like the idea of labeling something retirement. I don’t really want to know if I’m having my last match when I am.”
Van Dam’s comments reflect a mindset that has defined much of his career — staying flexible and refusing to lock himself into expectations. While he didn’t confirm any direct talks with WWE, the fact that he openly acknowledged they “got my number” is enough to keep fans wondering if another appearance could eventually materialize.
