Rob Van Dam isn’t making a comeback anytime soon—and according to the WWE Hall of Famer, his road to recovery has been longer and tougher than expected.
On a new episode of TMZ Inside The Ring, RVD opened up about the double heel fracture he suffered during a match on April 5, 2025. The injury, which occurred during his first match back after a year off, has kept him sidelined for more than five months. RVD thought he’d be back in the ring within two months. That didn’t happen.
“I feel like I’m between the middle and the end of it. So, you know, it’s been a while, a lot longer than I thought it would take to heal. And from what I’ve learned, every calcaneus fracture is different depending on how the bones are fragmented, and if you have surgery. This was April 5 for me, so it’s been quite a while. I thought I was looking at like eight, nine weeks, and I’d be back.”
“I’m at a point now where, I mean, I can see improvement all the time, but I’m nowhere near ready to wrestle. I’m not jumping or even running yet.”
While the physical setback has been frustrating, RVD admitted the mental break has had its perks—especially after decades of life on the road.
“It’s been great, it’s been wonderful. I don’t miss the travel.”
When asked if he sees himself stepping back into the ring in the future, RVD didn’t give a firm yes or no. His answer reflected someone genuinely torn between closure and one last run.
“Sure, it’s possible. I think anything’s possible. And I’m not ruling anything out personally, as far as whether I want to continue or not, after my heels are completely 100%… I change my mind like every few days about it.”
He then explained the internal battle he’s been wrestling with during his recovery.
“Sometimes I feel like, yeah, you know, I could go, feel great. I could go show the people that, you know, I can still do what I could do. Hopefully, it’ll motivate and inspire some people, maybe. And then at other times, I feel like, yeah, maybe I’d rather just be attached to the old school wrestling and remembered for that.”
For now, the whole damn show is staying on the shelf. But whether Rob Van Dam ever laces up the boots again remains anyone’s guess—even his own.
