Rob Van Dam isn’t backing down after his brutal critique of Jon Moxley’s bloody spike spot on AEW Dynamite—and now he’s shutting down a fan who tried to call him out over it.
After the March 19 episode of Dynamite featured Adam Copeland suplexing Jon Moxley onto a nail-covered 2×4 dubbed “Spike,” RVD took to his 1 Of A Kind podcast to share his blunt take: it wasn’t wrestling to him.
“It’s not my thing, not my kind of thing. That’s not wrestling to me,” RVD said. “The more AEW has been doing stuff like that, the more personally I feel like I would rather be associated with WWE than AEW, you know?”
He also questioned the overall direction of AEW, saying, “There’s a feel that like the inmates are running the prison… I personally look at it as being lower than the standard, substandard.”
That’s when a fan jumped in to throw shade at The Whole F’n Show. “So @TheRealRVD says the Jon Moxley spike spot was not wrestling to him. Meanwhile back in TNA in the year 2010, he’s using it as a weapon against Abyss. Little hypocritical don’t you think Rob?” the fan tweeted.
RVD’s response? Vintage heel energy. “Are you saying I loved this, it was my idea, or just that I did it? Someone who wasn’t Wrestling wrote this and I always said it was stupid,” he fired back. “OK, what do you have now? Do you think Moxley did what he was told or it was his idea and he loved it?”
Then he really twisted the knife. “When fans remind me how stupid they are, it makes me want to be a heel. But I ridiculous point.”
RVD didn’t deny doing the spot in TNA, but made it crystal clear he didn’t like it then—and doesn’t like it now. His stance seems more about creative direction than whether hardcore wrestling has ever crossed his path.
Do you agree with RVD’s take on AEW’s extreme style? Or is he out of line for throwing shots at Moxley while having his own history with weapons? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
