Brian “Road Dogg” James may still have ties to WWE through a Legends deal, but a new update suggests his WrestleMania 42 week plans have quietly changed.

Recent reports confirmed that the WWE Hall of Famer stepped away from his position on the SmackDown creative team after years working behind the scenes helping shape WWE programming. Despite that departure, it was initially reported that James remained connected to the company through his WWE Legends contract, which would allow him to continue appearing at official events.

In fact, early promotional listings for WrestleMania 42 week advertised Road Dogg as one of the personalities scheduled to appear at WWE World in Las Vegas.

However, that situation appears to have shifted. WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg Brian James is no longer listed as appearing at WWE World during WrestleMania 42 week. Instead, he is now scheduled to appear at WrestleCon in Las Vegas during the same weekend.

Road Dogg will be appearing there alongside his longtime tag team partner Billy Gunn, with the two reuniting for fan appearances tied to their legendary New Age Outlaws run.

The change is notable because WWE World is the company’s official fan convention during WrestleMania week, while WrestleCon operates independently and frequently hosts legends and stars from multiple wrestling promotions.

James recently stepped away from his role on WWE’s SmackDown creative team, with earlier reports stating that the move came after changes to his position within the company’s writing structure.

“The word making the rounds is that he made the decision to leave his position on the company's creative team, where he had been working on the SmackDown brand.”

Another report later suggested the decision may have been tied to frustration over internal changes to his responsibilities.

“He’s out. The word is he didn’t enjoy being moved out of his position.”

Even with that shift behind the scenes, Road Dogg still remains a major name from WWE’s Attitude Era thanks to his time as part of D-Generation X and the New Age Outlaws. But this latest update suggests his presence during WrestleMania 42 week will now take place outside WWE’s official fan convention.

Seeing Road Dogg appear at WrestleCon instead of WWE World is definitely an interesting development.

Do you think Road Dogg pulling out of WWE World means anything behind the scenes, or is it simply a scheduling change? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
