Tensions behind the scenes over R-Truth’s creative direction during his 2025 feud with John Cena have come to light—thanks to a dramatic exchange featured in WWE Unreal Season 2.

In the January 20, 2026 episode of the Netflix docuseries, Road Dogg and Triple H were shown debating the direction of R-Truth’s storyline, particularly the idea of Truth shaving his head—a moment that eventually aired on the June 9, 2025 episode of RAW as a major character shift.

Road Dogg revealed that R-Truth himself pitched the idea of cutting his hair, intending to unveil the new look dramatically during the match introductions.

"Yeah, he wants to shave his head for the match. Like, to reveal it when they’re face-to-face for the introductions—he takes his hood off and his head’s shaved. He wants to cut his hair."

But Triple H wasn’t sold, questioning what it was supposed to mean for the character. Triple H responded skeptically: “Why? Yeah, it doesn’t make any sense. What am I supposed to think of that? Like, ‘Oh look, Truth cut his hair.’”

The conversation quickly grew more intense as Road Dogg expressed frustration over the creative process for the Cena-Truth feud. He admitted he didn’t even want to pitch new ideas anymore, feeling the story had completely lost direction.

“With the John Cena story, this is why I’ve been very scared to pitch anything for this story,” Road Dogg said. “Everything just feels horrible and like s***, and I don’t want to pitch anything else for it. I can’t wait for John to f***** beat him, to tell you the truth.”

Triple H tried to redirect the conversation by focusing on the looming deadline for the story’s payoff, saying WWE had just days to sell a new version of R-Truth that would pose a real threat to Cena.

“We’re trying to, in a week—so today’s Wednesday—by Saturday we’re going to tell them, ‘This is an all-new R-Truth. John Cena should be afraid.’”

But Road Dogg pushed back, clearly overwhelmed and disheartened by the creative struggle.

“Well, no. We should do something. Don’t f****** cut me off—let them get mad. I don’t understand what we’re supposed to do here… It hurts my heart. So let’s move on.”

The exchange gave fans a raw look into the internal conflict surrounding one of the most unexpected feuds of 2025. While R-Truth’s hair-cutting moment ultimately aired and was presented as a turning point in his rivalry with Cena, WWE Unreal revealed just how divided the creative team was on what it actually meant—and whether the story was salvageable at all.
