Risa Sera’s storied in-ring career officially came to a close on January 12th, as the Japanese star wrestled her final match at a Prominence event in Japan.
Sera faced Suzu Suzuki in her retirement bout, a highly emotional contest that lasted 25 minutes and ended with Suzuki getting the win. After the match, Sera took to Twitter to reflect on her retirement and the support she received from the wrestling community.
“I have safely retired,” she wrote. “Thank you for 13 years and 2 months! Being seen off by so many people, I am truly happy. To prolong these happy feelings even a little, from now on I'll slowly reflect on the retirement event ✨”
Sera debuted in 2010 with Ice Ribbon, where she spent over a decade before moving on to promotions such as World Woman Pro-Wrestling Diana, STARDOM, and Pro Wrestling WAVE. Across her 13-year journey, Sera competed in nearly 1,400 matches, gaining a reputation for her toughness, creativity, and influence in the Japanese women’s wrestling scene.
World Woman Pro-Wrestling Diana also sent out a tribute to Sera following her final match, honoring her contribution to the sport and her time with the promotion.
Risa Sera now steps away from the ring, not just as a competitor, but as one of the defining figures in modern joshi wrestling.
