Ricochet is finally doing things his way—and he’s making it clear that’s how it should’ve been all along.

The AEW star, who famously dazzled crowds with his high-flying ability in WWE, recently opened up to Joseph Staszewski of New York Post Sports about the creative dead-end he hit on the main roster. While fans saw flashes of charisma and personality during his time in NXT, Ricochet revealed things quickly shifted after his 2019 main roster call-up.

“I think you saw glimpses of it in NXT when I first got there,” he said. “I think you saw glimpses of the suit. I think you saw glimpses of the promos. I think you saw glimpses of the personality trying to shine through.”

But when he was moved up to Raw and SmackDown, the vibe changed.

“Then 2019, I just got moved, and then I kind of got stuck in a resident superhero, and I got stuck in a weird position,” Ricochet said, adding, “Once you get stuck in a position, you’re kind of there until they deem it different.”

And he didn’t just sit back and wait for it to change. “No matter how many ideas you pitch or how many things you say or how many…I made videos,” he explained. “I made personal videos to put them on. I did stuff. Until they really wanted it to happen, it’s just not going to happen.”

Now that he’s in AEW, Ricochet finally has the freedom to showcase the version of himself he always wanted fans to see. “Let’s take it into my own hands and let’s allow me to be the one to introduce my personality, my characteristics, my own style, my way, the way I want to do it, and let’s see if that works,” he said. “If it doesn’t work, then that’s all me. But as you can see, my way is the best way, really, and that’s really with anything.”

Ricochet is clearly feeling free—and fans are starting to see the true personality that WWE never let fully shine.
