Ricky Saints is finally speaking out about the rumors surrounding his public support for Cody Rhodes—back when he was still under AEW contract.
During a conversation on What Do You Wanna Talk About?, Saints opened up to Cody about the backlash he faced for appearing at both WrestleMania 40 and backstage at the 2023 Royal Rumble, events that sent the internet into a frenzy and fueled speculation about a brewing deal with WWE.
When asked if he felt any heat for his loyalty to Cody before officially jumping ship, Saints didn’t dodge the question. Instead, he leaned all the way in.
“I think Rico loves Cody enough to not worry about that. I will never let somebody weaponize a friendship against me. And that comes back to my loyalty that I have. This is the thing — I don’t have a big family, I don’t have a lot of friends, so to speak. The people that have shown me being seen, being heard, being understood… I don’t think you really understand the grasp of that.”
Saints said his bond with Cody runs deeper than professional politics—and no amount of industry gossip or backlash could make him feel guilty for showing up in support.
“In my reality, a random text message — it means the world to me. And it’s not only an emotional thing — it is a pure, endearing, and deep love for you as a person because of what you’ve shown and reciprocated back.”
When it came to showing up at WrestleMania 40 and the Royal Rumble, Saints made it clear he had no regrets—even if it caused problems behind the scenes.
“So when I did that, I didn’t give a f**k. I’ll be real with you. And I don’t really believe in something being a detriment to my career. If you take that whole situation out of its element and you show someone, ‘Hey, this guy got in trouble — so to speak — for being at his friend’s biggest moment of his career,’ what do you think of that? That’s a beautiful thing.”
“Why should I ever get in trouble? Even to this day, I will ride for somebody — because that’s just in my nature.”
With Saints now officially part of the WWE system, it’s clear he’s staying true to his roots—even if it means stirring up controversy. In an industry full of politics, Saints isn’t afraid to show who’s in his corner.
