Rhea Ripley might be known for her brutal in-ring style and intimidating presence, but even Mami has a playful side—and now she’s revealing how her viral “sexy pin” became part of her wrestling identity.

During her sit-down with Chris Van Vliet, Ripley explained that the suggestive pinning style actually dates back to her wrestling days in Australia, long before she became a global star.

Ripley said the pin originated during her time training with Matt and Chris Basso at Riot City Wrestling, where her coaches couldn’t help but joke about the unique move.

“So that actually started in Australia. I’ve been doing it for a long time. I pinned Zack Sabbath that way, which was like an intergender match that I had. But I’ve been doing it for a long time, and I think the reason that it’s really stuck with me is because Matt and Chris Basso, my trainers, they used to call it the ‘sexy pin,’ and we used to laugh about it every time we’d do it, be like, ‘Ah, sexy pin.’ So it’s just like… I think that’s stuck in my head now. I’m just like, ah, sexy pin. I don’t know why, it’s just like my automatic movements now. But it works.”

The move, which often sees Ripley securing a pin in a more suggestive, almost cocky fashion, has become a signature part of her matches—even as her character has grown darker and more dominant. But for Ripley, it’s more muscle memory than intentional showboating.

The playful moment is a reminder that behind the tough exterior, Ripley hasn’t forgotten her roots—or the inside jokes that started her career.
