WWE’s acquisition of the Mexican lucha libre promotion AAA is a major move for both companies. Rey Mysterio is closely linked to AAA, and fans wondered if he was going to appear at an AAA event soon. Unfortunately, it appears that he was set to appear at one of their events, but those plans were scrapped due to his current injury.

According to WrestleVotes Radio, Rey Mysterio was originally planned to appear at Triplemanía Regia before his injury forced a change in plans. At the moment, WWE and AAA are considering using El Grande Americano for the event instead.

Rey Mysterio recently underwent surgery to repair a torn abductor muscle, which was ultimately what prevented him from competing against El Grande Americano at WrestleMania 41.

The Triplemanía Regia event will be taking place on June 15th, and WWE stars such as Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo will be appearing at Triplemanía as well. In fact, even Konnan has already confirmed that El Grande Americano will play a major role in AAA in the future.

While fans may be disappointed that Rey Mysterio won’t be returning to an AAA ring just yet, his recovery is the top priority. His eventual return will still be a big moment for both WWE and AAA, so we’ll have to wait and see when he returns and what WWE has planned for him when he does.
