WWE acquiring the Mexican lucha libre promotion AAA is obviously a really big deal for both companies. Since the acquisition, fans have been wondering if more crossover appearances will happen, and now it has been confirmed that Rey Mysterio will be returning to AAA in the future.

According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AAA Managing Director Dorian Roldán confirmed at the Sports Summit in Mexico City that Rey Mysterio will make his first appearance in AAA since 2018. Roldán also mentioned that other former AAA talent now in WWE, like Penta and Rey Fenix, are excited to come back.

“He said Rey Misterio Jr. will return to AAA and that the ex-AAA talent now in WWE are excited and can’t wait to return, meaning Penta and Fenix.”

WWE already revealed that its deal to acquire AAA was made in partnership with Fillip, a sports and entertainment company based in Mexico. If everything stays on track, the acquisition is expected to be finalized by the third quarter of 2025, once all standard legal and business steps are completed.

As for Rey Mysterio, he recently underwent surgery to repair a torn abductor muscle, which was ultimately what prevented him from competing against El Grande Americano at WrestleMania 41.

Rey Mysterio’s last match in AAA was a triple threat in 2018 for the AAA Mega Championship against Jeff Jarrett and Rey Wagner. Therefore, we’ll have to wait and see when he will come back to AAA as fans are definitely excited about his return.
