Rey Mysterio isn’t hiding the wear and tear after decades of defying gravity—but according to him, the real damage hasn’t hit where you’d expect.

The WWE legend opened up on LA PLATICA, giving a brutally honest update on his body and the injuries he’s endured, including the groin tear that forced him out of WrestleMania 41.

While discussing his high-flying style, Mysterio admitted that his back and neck, two areas most wrestlers struggle with, have held up shockingly well.

“I feel like I’ve been blessed with the amount of injuries ‘cause my back is clean, my neck is clean — like no injuries on my back. You would think the first thing that would go out is probably your back with everything that you do, landing constantly on it. But for me, because of everything that I do, my style, my knees are the ones in jeopardy all the time.”

It turns out Mysterio’s knees have taken the worst of it, with a brutal injury tally that includes around 11 ACL and meniscus tears. And most recently, that damage caught up with him again the day before WrestleMania 41, when he tore his groin—an area he admitted has become his “weaker side” thanks to years of knee issues. Rey explained that the tear didn’t happen during some wild stunt, but a simple movement gone wrong.

“I just heard a [pop]… and that’s it, I tore my groin. It’s always the small stuff, never the crazy moves.”

The injury was severe enough to sideline him from his scheduled WrestleMania match against El Grande Americano, with AEW star Rey Fenix stepping in as a replacement. Mysterio has since undergone surgery for the groin tear and also took care of a lingering busted eardrum during his time off. Despite the setbacks, he’s staying positive and expects to be back sooner rather than later.

“Good. Pretty good,” Mysterio said about his recovery progress. “I started my PT. Not to mention, I had a busted eardrum as well so I fixed that during my time off. I’m on the road to recovery. I should be back hopefully by August.”

If all goes according to plan, Mysterio could return to WWE before the end of summer 2025—just in time to shake up SmackDown heading into the fall.
