Rey Mysterio isn’t done stepping into the ring — but he’s already thinking about what could come next.

The 51-year-old WWE Hall of Famer appeared on Cody Rhodes’ What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast and opened up about his future. While many assumed the Hall of Fame would be his final milestone, Mysterio achieved that honor while still actively competing.

Right now, he says he’s focused on enjoying the ride — especially watching his son Dominik carve out his own legacy. When asked if he has a new goal in mind, Mysterio admitted he’s not chasing anything specific anymore.

“I mean, not really,” Mysterio said. “I pretty much have seen more than I could imagine with the growth of Dom and his evolution here in the sport, and how he’s grown, and how he’s become his individual self, and the place that he’s carrying and taking the name to, which I always deep down inside thought that he would be bigger and better than me in a different way.”

He even shared a surprising detail about Dominik’s heel persona.

“And I guess this is the way, which is also funny because my wife said that if he ever wrestled, that she always saw him as a bad guy. And here is the bad guy that my wife obviously spent way more time with him than I did. I was always on the road, so I guess she saw a side of him that I am now seeing. Obviously, I didn’t know.”

Dominik currently holds major gold across two companies, serving as AAA Mega Champion and WWE Intercontinental Champion. The father-son dynamic has become one of wrestling’s most compelling stories, including their tag match confrontation at AAA Guerra de Titanes in December 2025. With WWE now connected to Lucha Libre AAA, Mysterio hinted that a future backstage role with the Mexican promotion could interest him when the time is right.

“But overall, I think it might be fun to help with the acquisition with AAA and be involved as much as I can with that,” Mysterio said. “And kind of start learning on how to work on the production side or how I can invest my time to eventually help AAA grow. Knowing that that was my house, my very first house or my home from day one. And from there, it all started. Everything flourished from AAA. But I’m still enjoying the moment.”

That final line makes it clear — retirement isn’t imminent. Mysterio is still having fun competing in WWE, but he’s also planting seeds for life after the ring.

If he does transition into a production or executive role with AAA, it would bring his career full circle, returning to the promotion that launched him into global stardom.
