Rey Mysterio may not have walked away with a win on SmackDown, but his match against Kevin Owens on January 17 added another milestone to his legendary career. Owens got the victory after a hard-fought battle that lasted just over 15 minutes, but for Mysterio, the match meant a whole lot more.
According to Wrestling Stats & Info, Mysterio has now wrestled in 21 different calendar years for WWE, stretching from 2002 to 2014 and then from 2018 to now. The streak isn’t even consecutive—he stepped away from WWE between 2015 and 2018 before making his return. Since coming back, he hasn’t missed a single year, stacking up an eight-year consecutive streak inside a WWE ring.
“Though he came up short against @FightOwensFight, @reymysterio’s appearance on #SmackDown was his first match of 2025,” Wrestling Stats & Info posted. “That means Mysterio has now competed in @WWE in 21 different calendar years; 2002-2014, and 2018-2025.”
With a career that started in WCW back in 1996, Mysterio has defied the odds, proving time and time again that he’s one of the most durable and respected performers in the game. Even in defeat, he’s breaking records, and there’s no sign of him slowing down anytime soon.
