Rey Mysterio had fans worried after a recent episode of WWE Raw when he appeared to suffer an arm injury following his match with Austin Theory. The moment looked serious and quickly sparked concern online about what kind of injury the WWE Hall of Famer may have suffered.

Initial reports later clarified that the situation wasn’t related to his arm at all. According to PWInsider, the issue involved Mysterio’s ribs. At the time, the exact severity of the injury was unclear, leaving fans wondering how serious the situation actually was. Now, Mysterio himself has provided a clearer update.

While speaking with Unruly’s Adrian Hernandez, the veteran star addressed the injury directly and revealed exactly what happened. Mysterio explained that the damage occurred in late January and involved fractures on both sides of his ribcage, an injury that can take time to recover from given the physical demands of professional wrestling.

“Much better than when it actually happened. So, that injury occurred on January 27th, which was the Monday leading into the Rumble. Fractured ribs both left and right. So those take a little bit of time to heal, but on the way out.”

The update confirms that the injury was more serious than the initial on-screen moment may have suggested. Rib fractures are especially difficult for wrestlers because almost every movement in the ring—taking bumps, throwing strikes, or even breathing heavily during matches—puts pressure on the chest area.

Despite the setback, Mysterio indicated that he is improving and progressing through recovery. For now, the biggest takeaway from Mysterio’s own words is that the injury involved fractured ribs on both sides and that he is steadily getting better as the healing process continues.

Do you think Rey Mysterio should consider slowing down after injuries like this, or is his ability to keep bouncing back part of what makes him one of wrestling’s all-time greats? Let us know what you think in the comments and join the conversation.
