Rey Fenix has once again fueled speculation about his future with AEW.

On January 18, 2025, the former AEW Tag Team Champion posted a cryptic photo on Twitter, showing himself in what appeared to be a cell, restrained in a straight jacket. Fans were quick to interpret the image as a subtle jab at AEW, seemingly symbolizing his feelings of being trapped under his current contract.

This isn’t the first time Fenix has hinted at frustrations with AEW. Late last year, the Lucha Libre star made headlines after deleting tweets accusing the company of “inhumane treatment” and neglecting his medical needs. Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer previously reported that Fenix might be exploring ways to get released from his AEW contract, which had been extended due to injury time. Meltzer also noted that WWE appears to have creative plans for Fenix, further fueling rumors of his possible exit.

Adding to the speculation, AEW recently removed all Rey Fenix merchandise from their official store, redirecting fans to a 404 error page. This unusual development, combined with Fenix’s public grievances, has many believing his time in AEW may be coming to an end. Meanwhile, his brother and former tag partner Penta El Zero Miedo recently debuted on WWE RAW, sparking hope among fans that Fenix might join him there sooner rather than later.

While AEW has yet to address the situation publicly, Fenix’s cryptic post only intensifies the debate about the company’s handling of his status. Fans are left wondering if this is a calculated move by Fenix to push AEW’s hand or if there’s more to the story behind the scenes.
