Things just got real between Matt and Reby Hardy—and it all started with a name drop gone wrong.
During a recent appearance on Kai Cenat’s massive live stream, Matt Hardy was asked where fans could find his wife online. Instead of pointing viewers to her known persona “Reby Hardy” or her massive TikTok presence as “Gothic Baby’s mom,” Matt gave a name that blindsided his wife: Rebecca Hardy.
Reby took to Instagram with a fiery post, expressing her disappointment and feeling betrayed by someone who should’ve had her back. According to her, the name “Rebecca Hardy” is one she has never used in any personal or professional setting—and hearing it on the biggest stream in the world hit hard.
“Rebecca Hardy? Who the f** is that? Last night my husband went on the biggest stream in the world with Kai Cenat and was asked how people could find me—a full-time content creator who makes her living online—and his response was to give a name I’ve never used professionally or personally.”*
Reby explained that the moment stung deeper than any random online hate. She’s always put Matt and his brand first—even if it made her look “like a clown”—so the public misstep felt personal.
“I’ve had plenty of secret haters in my life, but for some reason this one hurt the most, because I’ve gone out of my way to promote this man and his brand, no matter how much of a clown I might look like doing it.”
She also provided context for why this meant so much, explaining that streaming was how she got her start in content creation.
“Twitch used to be my everything. I started out as a streamer, and that’s the whole reason I even have a TikTok account—to promote my Twitch. So when the biggest streamer on the planet asked where his millions of followers could find me, and my husband gave a name that only he, the federal government, and Wikipedia use, I felt slighted.”
Reby insisted this wasn’t about gaining followers or chasing views—it was about feeling seen by the one person who should know her better than anyone.
“I want to be clear—this isn’t about followers or clout. It’s about the one person I’d expect to go hard for me. I just want him to go as hard for me as I go for him. Honestly, it might have been better if he said nothing at all, because the way it came out feels like a very intentional slight.”
Despite the misstep, fans in the live chat knew who she was. Many shouted her out by her real handles, and Reby thanked those who stepped up to show support.
Matt Hardy responded quickly to the backlash, pushing back on the idea that he deliberately disrespected his wife. He pointed to multiple moments in the stream where he claims he mentioned her and their brand, “House Hardy,” which was pinned in the chat.
“I did. And I said House Hardy. And House Hardy was pinned in Kai’s chat. For anyone to think I’m trying to slight my wife, it’s insane. I went out of my way to acknowledge & promote her 3 different times. And that was on top of a ton of things I was trying to promote for me, Jeff and TNA.”

While it’s not the first time the couple has had drama play out online, this particular issue strikes at something deeper—professional respect and recognition between partners. Reby made it clear she felt this wasn’t just a flub, but something more hurtful.
In the end, this moment showed how even small missteps can hit hard when they come from someone close. Hopefully, Matt and Reby can talk this out and find common ground, but for now, the internet has plenty to say about it.
