Tony D’Angelo has been off WWE NXT TV since July, and fans have been speculating for months—was it an injury, a main roster call-up, or something else? Now we finally have an answer.

In the October 3, 2025 edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer revealed the real reason behind The Don of NXT’s absence:

“Regarding the disappearance of Tony D’Angelo, it is not injury related but he asked for time off.”

That’s the first official word on D’Angelo’s status after weeks of total silence. Up until now, there had been no public explanation from WWE, and even insiders didn’t have much to offer. Back on the September 29 episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez admitted he had no answers either.

“I haven’t heard a thing. I presume he’s got to go to the main roster, but I guess we’ll see.”

Dave Meltzer simply added:

“Yeah.”

D’Angelo’s disappearance came at a strange time. He had been a featured player in NXT storylines. So when he vanished from TV without injury reports or storyline closure, fans were left wondering if something went wrong behind the scenes.

Now, it turns out the decision was his—and not health or creative-related. As of now, there’s no official return date for D’Angelo, and no indication whether he’ll be back in NXT or show up on the main roster when he returns.

What do you think Tony D’Angelo’s next move should be? Should he return to NXT or head straight to the main roster? Drop your thoughts in the comments and let us know what you want to see from The Don.
