Orange Cassidy has been noticeably absent from AEW television in recent weeks, leaving fans wondering about his status. Now, the mystery has been solved.
Sean Ross Sapp provided an update during Fightful Select’s Q&A podcast, revealing that Cassidy was simply taking some time off.
“Yeah, he was just taking a little time off from what I understood, and now he’s booked in the International Title Series. He is going to be facing Roderick Strong this week.”
Cassidy’s absence had sparked speculation, especially as AEW continues to navigate changes in venue sizes, ticket sales and/or whatever other drama they have going on behind the scenes. However, it appears there was no major reason behind his time away—just a much-needed break before jumping back into the mix.
Before his break, Cassidy had addressed AEW’s critics in an interview with Bill Apter of Sportskeeda Wrestling, pushing back against negativity surrounding the company. “I mean, I could say, ‘Why do you care?’ You know, if you want AEW to fail, then fine. I just don’t understand why you feel the need to say it out loud. We are a very young company—we’ve only been around for five years—and we’ve grown exponentially fast, gaining traction early on thanks to Tony Khan.”
With his return now set, Cassidy is stepping right back into the action in AEW’s International Title Series, where he’ll take on Roderick Strong. Fans won’t have to wait long to see “Freshly Squeezed” back in the ring.
