The latest wave of WWE departures wasn’t about trimming the fat on the company’s budget — it was about clearing space for people they do believe in.

Wes Lee, Stevie Turner, Drako Knox, Jamar Hampton, Jin Tala, Haze Jameson, Summer Sorrell, and Brayden “BJ” Ray were all recently cut from WWE. Kylie Rae had already confirmed her ID contract wouldn’t be renewed, and Zayda Steel made it known she chose not to re-sign. But according to WWE insiders, this round of exits wasn’t tied to financials. Bryan Alvarez explained X Saturday, explaining exactly why these names were let go.

“WWE cuts were not budget related, they have over 130 people in developmental and hire more regularly,” Alvarez wrote. “If you’re not progressing fast enough or they feel you don’t have what it takes for main roster, you’re out to make room for someone new. Possible more cuts coming next week.”

This isn’t about cost-cutting. It’s about performance. WWE’s current developmental system doesn’t reward long-term potential — it demands fast results and visible growth. If you’re not viewed as a future main roster player, you’re gone.

The company has over 130 people in developmental and continues bringing in new talent regularly. So unless someone is standing out and climbing fast, they’re simply occupying a spot WWE wants to give to someone else.

It’s a cutthroat system — and this won’t be the last round of names we see vanish from the roster.

Do you think WWE’s “main roster or out” mindset is the right way to handle developmental talent? Or should some performers be given more time to evolve? Sound off in the comments below.
