The September 3 edition of AEW Dynamite saw Kenny Omega getting brutally attacked by the Don Callis Family and getting stretchered out. As it turns out, there’s a very good reason for this.
Fightful Select reports that Kenny Omega is not planned for AEW All Out, despite the event taking place in Canada. While surprising to fans, this has been the plan for months.
AEW sources said Omega had already arranged time off during this period and has a trip to Japan scheduled. He has been wrestling through pain for a long time, something he openly admitted, but it has become a normal part of his career at this stage.
“One person not planned for AEW All Out is Kenny Omega. This came as a surprise to many with the show in Canada, but Fightful Select has learned that this has actually been a plan for quite a while.
Sources in AEW confirmed that the angle to write Kenny Omega off is because he had planned time off around this time of the year going back months. They said that Omega has a trip over to Japan planned. It had been reported he was wrestling through pain, which he confirmed, but from what we understood, that has been the norm for him for a long time and he pretty well knows it will be moving forward.Unless something changes, Omega will not be at AEW All Out, and AEW’s angle with Kyle Fletcher was to help explain that on TV, while putting over Fletcher.”
Kenny Omega missing AEW All Out will be a letdown for fans in Canada, but it looks like his break was planned well in advance instead of being a sudden problem. AEW used his exit to their advantage, writing him off TV in a big angle that kept Omega looking strong while also giving Kyle Fletcher a major moment. So we’ll have to see when Omega will return to AEW television.
Do you think AEW made the right call in writing Kenny Omega off TV ahead of All Out, or should he have been saved for a major Canadian homecoming moment? Sound off in the comments.
