Giulia’s surprising title loss on the November 7 episode of WWE SmackDown raised plenty of eyebrows—but now the reason behind it may finally be clear.
During the match, Chelsea Green pulled off a quick win after Alba Fyre ran interference. The distraction opened the door for Green to roll up Giulia, grab the ropes for leverage, and steal the WWE Women’s United States Championship in just over a minute.
Giulia, who had held the title for 133 days, was furious after the loss and didn’t hide it. She vowed to destroy everything in her path moving forward. Fans online were just as angry, slamming the decision to cut her reign short after months of strong performances.
But according to Cory Hays of BodySlam.net, the loss might be part of a bigger plan. WWE reportedly had main event intentions for Giulia weeks ago, and her defeat could be a calculated step to elevate her status.
“The plan weeks ago was for her to enter the main event scene. Hoping that’s still the plan and she took the L like that to Chelsea for that reason.”
With Giulia now free of her midcard title, there’s growing talk that WWE could be setting up a collision with Jade Cargill for the WWE Women’s Championship. That feud could launch Giulia into the top tier of WWE’s women’s division—right where fans have expected her to be all along.
Was dropping the title the right move for Giulia, or should her reign have lasted longer? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
