Penta has finally opened up about the real reason he and Rey Fénix walked away from AEW and took the leap to WWE — and it wasn’t about money, fame, or frustration. It was something much deeper.

During an appearance on Mafufas Chronicles, Penta explained that after five years in AEW, both he and his brother felt they had reached a point where they were fully in control of their characters, comfortable backstage, and in a stable position. But that comfort started to feel like a limitation. They wanted something that would push them creatively and competitively in a way AEW no longer could.

Penta explained that the decision wasn’t simple, even though outsiders assumed WWE was the obvious next step.

“We spent five years there, which I’m grateful for. But eventually, I was fully Penta, my brother was fully Rey Fénix, and the opportunity came for me to go to WWE. And believe me — people say, ‘Bro, what were you waiting for? Go!’ But no, man. It was a very hard decision. A really tough one, because you’re basically going in blind. You’re taking a chance. You’re leaving your comfort zone — where you already know how things work, where you earn certain money, you can wrestle wherever you want… it’s comfortable. I also had more control in AEW. But deep down, you know there’s something missing. It wasn’t money, it wasn’t fame — it was competitive hunger. Growth. That’s what finally took us to WWE.”

Leaving AEW wasn’t a move they took lightly. Penta said the brothers would spend nights in hotels debating the pros and cons of making the jump. For every reason to stay, there was another reason to go — and the uncertainty weighed on both of them. Still, one thing never changed: they were going to make the decision together, no matter what.

“My brother. He can tell you himself: we were still working for the other company, and in the hotels we’d be like, ‘Bro, look at this — yes/no — pros/cons.’ One of us was yes, the other was no. ‘We came together, we leave together. What do we do?’”

In the end, the brothers chose to bet on themselves. Penta made his WWE debut on the January 13th episode of Raw, while Rey Fénix arrived on the April 4th edition of SmackDown. Their move wasn’t about running away from AEW — it was about chasing the next chapter of their careers and pushing their limits at the highest level of the industry.

Penta and Rey Fénix’s jump to WWE shows how far wrestlers are willing to go when they’re hungry for growth and ready to challenge themselves. Their story isn’t about abandoning AEW — it’s about stepping into something new, risky, and full of potential.
