The WWE Night of Champions card took a hit this week when Dominik Mysterio’s Intercontinental Title defense against AJ Styles was abruptly scrapped. Now, the real reason behind his absence has come to light.

During the June 23 episode of WWE RAW, Adam Pearce dropped the news on live TV, telling Styles:

“Your Intercontinental Title match with Dominik Mysterio at Night of Champions… it’s not happening.”

At the time, no further details were given. Later that night, WWE confirmed Dominik was dealing with an injury but stayed quiet on specifics. Now, sources have revealed via PWINsider that Mysterio is nursing a rib cage issue, which led to him being pulled from the June 28 premium live event in Saudi Arabia.

The good news for fans is that the injury isn’t expected to keep Dominik on the sidelines for long. While there’s still no official timeline for his return, WWE has made it clear that AJ Styles remains first in line for a title shot once Dominik is cleared.

In the meantime, WWE wasted no time reshuffling the Night of Champions lineup. Rhea Ripley will now face Raquel Rodriguez in a Street Fight after Raquel and Roxanne Perez put Ripley through a table on RAW. Plus, Sami Zayn will go one-on-one with Karrion Kross, adding even more heat to the card.

The updated Night of Champions event goes down Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
