The AEW WrestleDream main event between Darby Allin and Jon Moxley had fans on the edge of their seats—until the ending abruptly cut off. Now we know why it happened.
According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, the brutal “I Quit” match had to be rushed due to time constraints. Just as Moxley gave up and Darby climbed the ropes with the American flag to celebrate, the broadcast was yanked off the air.
“The real-life reason was that they were completely out of time. The moment he gave up and Darby ran up and started celebrating with the flag in the corner, it was off the air. So it was a timing issue.”
Alvarez also mentioned another possible factor—Darby Allin may have cut his arm badly during the match, which triggered additional concerns from local authorities.
“Someone also said he sliced up his arm, and they had to end it quickly before the Missouri Pro Wrestling Commission decided to stop it. It was mostly a timing issue.”
The match itself didn’t shy away from controversy. One of the more brutal spots featured Moxley shoving Allin’s head into a fish tank, a moment that sparked backlash online—including from former AEW coach Sarah Stock, who questioned the segment’s appropriateness.
Still, fans hoping for a longer or more cinematic ending were left with a sudden fade-out, a reminder of how unpredictable live pro wrestling can be—even at the top level.
Timing may have stolen the spotlight at the end, but Darby Allin and Jon Moxley delivered a war that won’t be forgotten.
