Claudio Castagnoli hasn’t been seen on AEW television for the past week, leading fans to wonder what’s been going on with him. While it’s still unclear when he’ll return, the reason for his absence has now been revealed.

Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Claudio Castagnoli has been absent from TV over the past week. He stated that it isn’t due to an injury, anything related to WWE mentioning his name, or any kind of business issue. There’s nothing negative behind it; he was simply given some time off.

“Claudio Castagnoli has missed the TV’s over the past week. It’s not an injury and has nothing do to with his name being mentioned on WWE television nor a business issue. It’s nothing negative at all but he was given time off.”

This comes after Tony Khan announced that Beast Mortos was replacing Claudio Castagnoli in the 12-man tag team match, where he teamed up with the Death Riders and the Young Bucks at AEW Grand Slam: Mexico went live from Arena Mexico. Castagnoli was also noticeably absent from the June 25th edition of AEW Dynamite.

Therefore, Claudio Castagnoli’s time away from AEW is simply a short, well-earned break. There’s no injury or backstage issue behind it, so fans can expect the Swiss Superman to return soon and get back to doing what he does best in the ring and be an absolute menace as part of the Death Riders.
