Charlotte Flair’s recent disappearance from WWE programming had fans wondering if something major was brewing behind the scenes. Turns out, it was much simpler—and far more human—than most expected.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Flair’s absence from SmackDown wasn’t a storyline or part of any creative swerve. She was legitimately sick.
“Flair missed SmackDown this week and was said on television to be sick. That was legit,” Meltzer wrote.
Her illness was reportedly serious enough to require a full rewrite of the show’s script. Meltzer added:
“It was described to us as she was very ill this past week which led to a change in television.”
That may explain the sudden shifts in the SmackDown women’s division direction heading into Royal Rumble season. In a business where “sick” can sometimes mean “sidelined for other reasons,” multiple sources confirmed that this time, The Queen really was just under the weather. The good news? She’s back.
“She did return to the tour on 1/15,” Meltzer reported, signaling a fast recovery and return to the road at a critical time on WWE’s calendar.
Charlotte Flair’s return comes just in time for the Royal Rumble buildup, and fans should expect to see her back on TV soon—likely with her eyes on championship gold once again.
