Alberto Del Rio’s situation just got even more complicated—and this time, it’s about why a WWE return was never on the table.
Amid the growing fallout from his recent arrest over alleged domestic violence and multiple promotions pulling him from events, a new report reveals a long-standing issue that may have already closed the door on WWE years ago.
According to El Planchitas of the Mexican outlet RECORD, Del Rio’s absence from WWE wasn’t just about timing or creative—it came down to a personal incident involving Stephanie McMahon. The report claims Del Rio allegedly verbally insulted her, something that didn’t sit well with Triple H.
“By the way… do you know why he was never going to return to WWE? Well, because of that same violent and aggressive attitude, which, according to some sources, led him one day to verbally insult none other than Stephanie McMahon…”
The report goes on to explain how that moment reportedly had lasting consequences behind the scenes. And according to the same report, that incident effectively sealed Del Rio’s fate when it came to any potential comeback.
“…the daughter of the former owner of WWE, Vince McMahon, and wife of the current boss of bosses of the company, Triple H, who—I'm told—took those harsh insults from the Mexican towards his wife as a personal affront…so he would never allow his return to WWE, and even less so with this.”
This update adds more context to Del Rio’s ongoing situation, especially as his current issues continue to impact his standing across the wrestling world. Multiple promotions have already begun removing him from scheduled appearances, with replacements being announced almost immediately.
At the same time, his presence had already started fading following WWE’s acquisition of AAA, and his eventual loss to El Mesias—under stipulations that forced him out—marked the end of that chapter as well.
Now, with both past and present issues stacking up, the picture is becoming clearer: even before the current controversy, Del Rio may have already burned one of the biggest bridges in wrestling. If this report holds true, it’s not just about what’s happening now—it’s about decisions made years ago that are still shaping his career today.
