The Rogers Centre in Toronto hosted the 2025 Elimination Chamber event, and that included a brutal battle between two Canadians, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. The two had an unsanctioned contest, and they put their all into the match.
Things have been heated between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn for years at this point. The two grew up together in the Canadian pro wrestling scene, and they will likely fight forever at this point. The two had a chance to really show off in Toronto at Elimination Chamber.
This match was unsanctioned, because Adam Pearce wouldn’t approve the match when Sami Zayn demanded it. That means anything was on the table, so fans were expecting brutality.
This match went on third in the night, right after Tiffany Stratton and Trish Stratus were able to topple Nia Jax and Candice LeRae. Then it was time for another match with come Canadian representation.
The referee, Rod Zapata, didn’t even wear a WWE shirt for this match, since the company did not sanction it. He wore a black t-shirt with his black rubber gloves already on in case of blood. That was a nice touch as fans cheered Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn’s entrances.
It didn’t take long for a chair to get involved in this match as a weapon, which Owens used, and then Zayn had a turn. Soon, Zayn got a hockey stick from underneath the ring, and he used it as a weapon. Eventually, their brawl spilled out into the crowd as the two fought across the Rogers Centre’s floor. In the process, Zayn put Owens through two tables. When they got closer to the ring, Owens used the ring bell, a trash can lid, and a monitor on the announce table on Zayn as weapons to gain control. Sami eventually took a big bump off the top rope through a table set up on the floor.
Sami Zayn started to rally, but then Kevin Owens pulled the referee in the way of a Helluva Kick, and he hit a stunner on Zayn for a near count. Charles Robinson ran down to count, but Zayn kicked out. Then Owens took out the second referee out of anger. They continued, and Sami Zayn eventually stopped Kevin Owens on the top rope, and he set up a table under them. However, Owens was able to get a fisherman buster on Zayn through the table.
Eventually, Sami Zayn pulled a barbed wire covered chair out from underneath the ring. This popped the crowd and brought on some ECW chants. Then, Owens took a couple shots to the back from the dangerous weapon, which was followed by a drop-toe hold into the barbed wire wrapped chair after he set it in the ring. Zayn set that chair up as a bridge between two more chairs, and he hit a Blue Thunder Bomb on Owens through that for a close near fall.
That was followed by Kevin Owens nailing two powerbombs on the ring apron. WWE officials pleaded with him to stop, but he kept going. Then, Owens rolled Sami Zayn back into the ring and won the match with a clean pinfall. After the match, Owens pulled up the protective mat at ringside, and just as he was about to do something even more evil to Sami Zayn, Randy Orton’s music hit, and The Viper made his return.
Randy Orton has been out of action since Kevin Owens put him out with a Packaged Piledriver. The Apex Predator was back, and he was looking for revenge. Orton made his way to the ring, and Owens told him to get in for a fight. Fans sang Orton’s theme song loudly as he turned and took off his vest. Then, Orton slid in the ring and started brawling with Owens before nailing an RKO. Then, Orton geared up for a punt to Owens’ head, but a ton of security jumped in the ring to stop him. Orton answered by hitting a slew of RKOs on the security members after Owens got away.
We will have to see what’s next for Kevin Owens. He certainly beat his old friend in a definitive fashion in Toronto. Obviously, Owens and Zayn left it all on the table at Elimination Chamber. With Randy Orton back, the road to WrestleMania 41 is much more interesting.
