The Travis Scott-WWE crossover might not be dead—but it’s definitely a mess. Between Scott reportedly flaking on his WWE training and the behind-the-scenes fallout from R-Truth’s release and rehiring, the company’s plans for the hip-hop star have completely fallen apart.
During a recent Q&A, WrestleVotes confirmed that before Money in the Bank, WWE had big plans for Scott to appear at the event—and they were already invested. Tons of Travis Scott merchandise had been designed with his logo, the event branding, and the date. But then, the unexpected drama with Ron “Truth” Killings changed everything.
“That’s an interesting one — we put it out prior to Money in the Bank that he was planned to be at Money in the Bank. I can go as far as to tell you guys there was a lot of Travis Scott merchandise — designed with his logo and his imagery, with the Money in the Bank location and logo and date, all that stuff.”
According to WrestleVotes, WWE scrapped the Scott plans after the R-Truth situation exploded. Truth was released from his WWE contract, only to be rehired after massive fan backlash.
“Then, the Ron ‘Truth’ Killings stuff happened — and they changed creative. I don’t know if that interacted with Travis Scott or not — but somewhere along those lines, the Travis Scott plans changed.”
WrestleVotes added that while there’s a chance WWE moved Scott’s debut to SummerSlam, nothing is confirmed. What is confirmed is that Scott was absolutely supposed to be at Money in the Bank—and now, those plans are dead.
It lines up with what Jonathan Coachman recently revealed on Behind the Turnbuckle with Vince Russo. Coachman explained that Scott was supposed to team with John Cena at Money in the Bank against Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso. But Scott stopped showing up, forcing WWE to scramble and replace him with Logan Paul.
“That setup Cena getting involved and Cody making his return after a month at Saturday Night’s Main Event, which then led to the tag match for Money in the Bank that Cody apparently is now making matches.”
“For whatever reason, Cody Rhodes came out and instead of saying, ‘John Cena, I want you at Money in the Bank one-on-one,’ he made a tag team match. Jey Uso is his partner, and then you’ve got Cena. Logan Paul’s with Cena.”
Coachman then dropped the real reason behind the sudden change.
“It was supposed to be Travis Scott, but Travis Scott, we are hearing, is flaking. It’s very widely known, Vince, that Travis Scott was supposed to be training with Booker T and he was supposed to be in this tag match. That didn’t happen.”
Coachman also confirmed that a six-man tag match for SummerSlam had been pitched—potentially involving Scott—but that’s now up in the air.
“I have heard, Vince—and maybe it’s changed now that Travis Scott is not showing up—but he’s not. I have that on good authority that SummerSlam is supposed to be a six-man tag after the tag at Money in the Bank. But… if he’s not showing up, then you’re not going to get his followers, because his followers aren’t going to watch it. I don’t think the crossover worked.”
WWE’s original plan involved Cena, Cody, and Travis Scott being the focal point of a long-term storyline. But with Scott ghosting and Truth’s drama shaking up creative, the company is scrambling to piece together a backup plan.
At this point, Travis Scott’s WWE debut is looking more cursed than coordinated. Between him bailing on training, R-Truth’s drama blowing up creative plans, and WWE scrambling behind the scenes, the whole crossover feels like a mess nobody can clean up. Whether Scott shows up at SummerSlam or not, one thing’s for sure—this has been anything but smooth.
