R-Truth and John Cena had a solid program earlier this year, which gave birth to his iconic “Ron Cena” gimmick, and now Truth has opened up about this particular character in a big way.
While speaking to New York Sports, R-Truth reflected on his recent career momentum, saying he feels like he keeps reaching new levels thanks to the support of the fans and the energy of the universe.
“I feel like I just keep reaching new levels that the universe and the fans keep putting me on, man. It’s fantastic. It’s awesome. It’s overwhelming.”
When asked about being part of John Cena’s final run, Truth said the experience was unforgettable and deeply meaningful. Every moment felt special to him, but he especially remembered the Saturday Night Main Event, where the crowd reaction was electric.
Standing across from Cena that night felt like a “passing of the torch” moment for him, one that left a lasting image in his heart and mind.
“That’s wonderful. It’s overwhelming, man. You can’t really find the words. I’m very grateful. Every moment meant something to me. You can’t just pick one. But the Saturday Night Main Event — that’s one I won’t forget. Being across from him, hearing the eruption, that was the birth of Ron Cena right there. I won’t forget that moment — him looking at me like he was passing the torch. The arena was packed, sold out. That visual is something I’ll always remember — in my eyes, my heart, my mind. I’m getting goosebumps just talking about it now.”
Truth also reacted to the idea that his “Ron Cena” persona helps keep John Cena’s legacy alive when he’s not around. R-Truth hadn’t thought of it that way before but agreed it made sense. He compared it to still having a piece of a twin brother even when the other is gone, a connection that keeps part of Cena’s spirit present in WWE.
“I never thought of it that way, but you’ve got a good point. If you have one twin brother who’s gone, you still have a piece of him, right? Yeah, we’re twins. We look more alike than our other brother.”
R-Truth’s thoughts show how strong his bond with John Cena really is. What started as a funny “Ron Cena” act has turned into something more meaningful. So it’s clear Truth’s storyline with Cena was an integral part of Cena’s retirement tour and no one can take that away from him.
