R-Truth has finally revealed the full story behind his return at WWE Money in the Bank 2025—and it turns out things nearly fell apart at the very last second.
Speaking to Adrian Hernandez on January 21, 2026, Truth revealed that the secrecy around his comeback almost cost him the moment entirely. According to Truth, he arrived at the arena after John Cena’s match had already started.
“It was Money in the Bank day. I almost didn’t make it because we were trying to keep it secret. I was that close to not making it there because of the secrecy and what we wanted to present.
If their match was at seven, I think I got there at 7:05. The match was already going. They’re like, ‘He’s got to get here now.’ It was that close, dog. I barely had time to put on my shoes, push gear, and get to it. We cut it close—but in a perfect world, it was perfect.”
To keep fans and the media off his trail, WWE flew him into the smaller Burbank airport instead of LAX—just one of several last-minute moves made to preserve the surprise.
“Kayfabe to the highest. I’m inside this dream, living this dream. I’m coming back to what I love to do. You know what I’m saying? So it was low clothes. I think somebody posted, ‘I think I saw R-Truth in the airport.’ So it was just me trying to maneuver my way, man.
I flew into Burbank—it’s a quiet airport and it’s short. Flying into LAX, dog, I get spotted. Whether it’s TMZ or anybody else, I get spotted a lot at LAX. So they flew me into Burbank. I took a car down. I mean, I’m Pooh Shiesty—you won’t see nothing on me but this right here, dog.”
Truth said the emotional pressure of the day was intense. While staying in a secluded hotel with the venue in sight, he was overwhelmed by adrenaline and anxiety.
“It was still surreal though, Adrian. Just an overwhelming amount of love, the adrenaline, the suspense, the anxiety, the tension—everything was building up to that moment.”
This updated account aligns with what fans saw on WWE Unreal, where it was confirmed that R-Truth didn’t officially sign his new WWE contract until the same day of the event—mere hours before he appeared on camera. Triple H explained that the contract was still being negotiated behind the scenes as the show approached.
“When Money in the Bank came around, Truth’s contract was being worked on behind the scenes,” he said.
Truth himself credited WWE President Nick Khan with helping him through the emotional moment and sealing the deal.
“Me and Nick Khan talked for an hour that day. I was hurt, and Nick kind of padded that wound. We made the deal, we agreed, the ink was dry,” Truth said. “He said, ‘Money in the Bank would be the best time. That’s going to be your return.’”
Bruce Prichard also confirmed that the decision to end the show with Truth was made only after the contract was finalized—on the day of the show.
“The deal wasn’t even done until the day of Money in the Bank. It was like, ‘Well, we can do this at the end of the show. Hey, this is a nice punctuation at the end of the night.’”
R-Truth’s return at Money in the Bank may have looked seamless to fans, but it was anything but. From contract talks that went down to the wire to arriving late and sprinting into gear backstage, the whole thing nearly didn’t happen. But somehow, it worked—and fans got one of the most talked-about surprises in recent WWE memory.
Did WWE take the right risk by keeping Truth’s return so secret? Or was it too close for comfort? Sound off in the comments and tell us how you felt watching it all unfold.
