There are a lot of questions around about WWE and TNA Wrestling’s partnership. One of the biggest deals with how WWE allows wrestlers in TNA to use their WWE name.
Sean Ross Sapp said on Fightful Select’s Q&A that he also thinks it’s strange WWE wouldn’t include name usage as part of the deal. After all, many Superstars, like Powerhouse Hobbs to Royce Keys, had to change their names. WWE has also historically made Superstars leave their names with them upon release or contract expiration.
It was added that things like the name, merchandise, and theme song could help TNA talent. Then again, Sapp revealed that when he asked about it, he was told that isn’t included in the WWE-TNA agreement.
WWE used to be a giant island by themselves, never helping out any other company. That was the way Vince McMahon ran things, because the operation is more open to doing business under the TKO umbrella.
Triple H’s mindset on the situation may have loosened the tight strings a bit. In the end, WWE and TNA Wrestling fans have certainly benefited from this deal. We will have to see if this question, and many more about the agreement, are answered eventually.
