“AEW and the wrestling world mourns the passing of Sabu. From barbed wire battles to unforgettable high-risk moments, Sabu gave everything to professional wrestling. Our thoughts are with his family, his friends and his fans.”

Sabu started his wrestling career in the early 1990s, first wrestling for small companies before joining ECW in 1993. He became famous for using weapons, doing high-flying moves, and risking his body in every match. He became one of ECW’s top stars, winning the World Title twice and the TV Title once.

Sabu had major rivalries with wrestlers like Taz, Rob Van Dam, and Terry Funk. One of his most famous matches was against Terry Funk in 1997, where the ring ropes were replaced with barbed wire. The match ended with both men stuck in the wire, and it became one of the most talked-about moments in ECW history.

After ECW ended, Sabu wrestled in WWE’s version of ECW from 2006 to 2007 and then went to TNA Wrestling. Eventually, he branched off to the indie scene and even made an appearance on AEW programming a couple of years ago as well.
