Powerhouse Hobbs may have wrestled his final AEW match.
According to Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp, Hobbs’ AEW contract is expiring at midnight, and while AEW made a substantial offer to retain him, sources indicate he is expected to sign with WWE as early as this week.
Hobbs reportedly finished up at tonight’s AEW Collision tapings following Dynamite, quietly wrapping what could be his final appearance for the company.
AEW and Hobbs have been engaged in months of negotiations, and while the offer from AEW was said to be “huge”, Hobbs opted to test free agency—and WWE has been waiting.
“WWE sources believe he is headed there, barring some huge unforeseen change,” the repor nnoted, adding that WWE has held interest in Hobbs for years, dating back to when Dan Ventrelle was leading talent relations.
Although rumors of Hobbs jumping ship have surfaced in recent months, there was no contact between Hobbs and WWE until recently. Still, that window opened quickly once his AEW deal neared expiration—and now, the path appears clear for a WWE debut.
Despite leaving AEW, the report states that Hobbs is exiting on good terms, with no heat or friction between the two sides. Hobbs, a key member of the Don Callis Family and former TNT Champion, had grown into a prominent force on AEW television, but the allure of WWE—and the opportunity for a new chapter—seems to have won out.
