WWE is working on making John Cena’s retirement from pro wrestling very special, and those plans may already be in motion. A triple threat match for the IC Title at Saturday Night’s Main event may set the stage for Cena’s final couple matches, and this may reveal a lot more than some may see on the surface.
Dominik Mysterio didn’t see a triple threat match coming for his IC Title, but that is what is on the card. WWE RAW on October 27 was the final episode before Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1. During the show, Rusev and Penta competed to determine the next challenger for the Intercontinental Title, but interference from El Grande Americanos disrupted the match. The attack ended the bout in chaos, with Rusev and Penta eventually fighting back against the group.
Later in the night, Adam Pearce saw Dominik Mysterio speaking with members of El Grande Americanos. Pearce then informed him that he will defend the Intercontinental Title against both Rusev and Penta in a triple threat match at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer provided a likely spoiler for that triple threat match. After all, WWE already has plans for that title.
“The fourth match is Dominik Mysterio vs Penta vs. Rusev for the IC title. Mysterio would be the favorite given there was the plan a few weeks ago of John Cena winning that title from Mysterio at Survivor Series and defending against Gunther in his retirement match.”
This is a very interesting title picture to watch. After all, WWE has reportedly considered one more title run for John Cena with that championship. It may result in a title run that stretches all the way to his last match in a WWE ring.
Only time will tell what happens at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Dirty Dominik Mysterio has been quite a heel of a champion, and he’s enjoyed every moment of it. That being said, he may have bigger things on his plate after he gets finished with that match in Salt Lake City.
