Chris Jericho’s name is back in the conversation backstage, and new reports suggest a return could be coming sooner rather than later.
Jericho has been away from AEW television since April 2025, but speculation about his future picked up after he recently trademarked the term “Cornerstone.” That move got people talking about where he could land next, and now there’s word that many inside AEW expect him to come back.
According to Fightful Select, there is growing belief within AEW that Jericho will return to the company, especially since the trademark appears to fit better with AEW than anywhere else.
“Chris Jericho has been the subject of discussion recently, as he trademarked the phrase ‘Cornerstone.’ This has led to natural speculation about his landing point. Sources in AEW do have a growing belief that he will return to the company, especially with the nature of the trademark making more sense there.”
There have also been talks between Jericho and WWE in recent months, but nothing serious has come together on that side. The report noted that Jericho was never planned for several major WWE shows that fans had speculated about earlier this year.
“We’re told that there absolutely have been talks between Chris Jericho and WWE in recent months. However, at no point has creative been set for him that we’ve heard about. He was never planned for the WWE Raw on Netflix anniversary, Royal Rumble, or Elimination Chamber.”
Meanwhile, discussions between Jericho and AEW have reportedly continued behind the scenes, which only adds to the belief that a comeback could happen soon.
“At the very least, Jericho and AEW have been discussing a return in the last couple of months.”
Jericho recently made it clear that he still has years left in his career, so the idea of him stepping back into the spotlight isn’t far-fetched. With chatter building and his name being discussed internally, fans are now watching closely to see when — not if — he shows up again.
