Jon Moxley may have delivered one of AEW’s most passionate promos to date after winning the Continental Classic at Worlds End, but not everyone was impressed—especially WWE personality Peter Rosenberg.
Taking to Twitter during the show, Rosenberg threw shade at Moxley’s emotionally charged speech, questioning whether it belonged on the card at all.
“Maybe right before the main event isn’t the time for a rambling speech about God knows what ??” Rosenberg wrote.
The shot didn’t go unanswered. AEW’s Ricochet—who made his jump from WWE—clapped back almost instantly with a blunt response, “Peter. Not like this.”
Rosenberg’s comment referred to the lengthy and intense post-match promo Moxley delivered after defeating Kazuchika Okada in a blood-soaked final to win the tournament. Instead of heading straight to the back, Moxley grabbed the mic and launched into a fired-up speech that felt more like a rallying cry for AEW than a typical wrestling promo.
“To hell with all of this congratulations and sht. This belt is here — it doesn’t belong to me. It belongs to everybody in this tournament that busted their ass, gave everything they had every night.”*
“It belongs to the people, to the fans who support pro wrestling with their goddamn hard-earned money. We owe it to them to give them everything we have. I owe it to them. I owe it to my teammates.”
“Everybody in this company who shows up every f**king day and gives everything they’ve got — there’s no other organization in wrestling like AEW. We are the elite of the elite.”
According to Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer, this promo wasn’t just off-the-cuff—it was a strategic move. Meltzer claimed AEW is using Moxley to reset the company’s tone after a rocky 2023 and 2024 plagued by backstage drama and declining momentum.
“They’re probably a year late on this,” Meltzer said. “But they are doing a tremendous job of essentially trying to reverse that negativity that really plagued them badly in late 2023 and throughout a lot of 2024.”
But while fans in the arena responded with energy and support, Rosenberg’s reaction shows that not everyone saw it the same way. Will more AEW or WWE personalities jump into the conversation? Is Rosenberg out of line—or did Moxley’s moment go too far? Let us know where you stand in the comments.
