Seth Rollins might be down, but Paul Heyman says don’t count out the plan behind it.
The WWE Hall of Famer addressed the chaos surrounding Rollins’ knee injury during his recent match against LA Knight at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event. Rollins landed awkwardly during a springboard moonsault and immediately rolled to the corner. Referee Jessika Carr, ringside doctor Chris Amann, and Heyman rushed in, halting the match briefly. After a quick conversation, Rollins stood up—only to get dropped by Knight’s BFT finisher for a surprise loss.
Initial reports said the match finish was changed on the fly due to Rollins getting legitimately hurt. But new theories emerged suggesting the entire thing was pre-planned to give Rollins time off for a pre-existing injury. Now, Paul Heyman has poured fuel on the fire with a cryptic response while speaking to CBS Sport.
“Seth Rollins being injured is a fact of life. It’s an inherent danger in this industry.”
But for Heyman, the injury drama might be a calculated move rather than a setback. He says WWE knows exactly how to manipulate the media.
“The media will exploit their access to us by having more in-depth reporting behind the scenes. We’re going to exploit that access to the media by devising storylines that are enticing to the readers, viewers or the people who consume that content. It now becomes another platform for us to use. It’s just the evolution of the relationship. The reporters get closer to the product, and the product gets closer to the reporters.”
Heyman also turned the conversation toward the future, using the situation to push two names he’s closely aligned with: Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed.
“This allows even more spotlight to be put on Bron Breakker, who is going to main event multiple WrestleManias in the future. I was predicting that even before Bron Breakker was with me on television.”
“Bronson Reed is the most underappreciated and underutilized monster that we’ve had for years. Finally, he gets the spotlight to have the right opponents to smash. He gets the right opponents to Tsunami. Before, it was an effort to get Bronson Reed into a main event. Now the main eventers line up for him…”
Whether Rollins is actually injured or this is just part of WWE’s next big angle, Heyman clearly wants the focus to shift toward the next wave of monsters—and he’s not shy about using the moment to do it.
