At the Backlash Premium Live Event, Pat McAfee went head-to-head with GUNTHER in a hard-hitting, physical match. While McAfee gave it everything he had, he ultimately came up short against the dominant Ring General. In fact, McAfee has revealed his condition following the brutal battle.
While speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, Pat McAfee talked about how his body felt after his brutal match with GUNTHER. He said his chest was burning and his neck hurt from holding his head up while getting beaten up. His back was sore, his hips weren’t feeling good, and both of his knees were hurting.
McAfee didn’t understand why his hip flexors were so sore, but then realized it was because GUNTHER had stretched them during the bout. He also said he might be bleeding inside, but he’s not sure yet and will find out soon.
Pat McAfee also noticed a blood vessel had popped in his left eye, but he didn’t know when it happened, which he feels might have been from the first big chop. In the end, he said he took a lot of hits but gave some back as well.
“Chest is burning, neck is hurting from holding my head up from whenever I was getting my ass beat, back is pretty sore, hips are not good either, both of my knees are very problematic. I was wondering why my hip flexors are so sore, now it makes sense, this guy was stretching it out there. Who knows about the bleeding that’s happening inside of me, but I guess I’ll find out. Popped a blood vessel in my left eye—when did that happen? Who knows, could have been anytime. That might have been the first chop. So I took a lot, gave some.”
In the final moments of the match, Pat McAfee tried to lock in a sleeper hold on GUNTHER, but the Ring General countered with a hard kick to the head and then put McAfee in a sleeper hold of his own until the referee was forced to stop the match.
With that said, Pat McAfee’s status for this week’s episode of Raw is in question following GUNTHER’s vicious beating. Despite the loss, Pat McAfee earned the respect of fans and fellow wrestlers for his heart and the courage to step into the ring with the Ring General. Therefore, we’ll have to see what’s next in store for the former punter.
