WWE’s Premium Live Events will be moving from Peacock to ESPN’s brand-new $29.99-per-month streaming platform. However, the price point is definitely not something people are happy about and now they are expressing their outrage on social media.
One fan on Twitter said WWE is making a risky choice by raising prices. They believe that if fans can’t afford the one big show they look forward to all year, they might stop watching for good. The worry is that once fans leave, they won’t come back. Some think it’s only a matter of time before this happens.
“They’re playing a dangerous game and they’re going to push it too far eventually. You price fans out of that one event they save up for? You’re losing them for life and never getting them back. Just a matter of time before that happens.”
Another fan reacted by saying they’re done with WWE. They mentioned losing interest now that John Cena is gone and Roman Reigns is no longer in a main role. They also said paying $30 a month to watch Cody Rhodes main event Premium Live Events isn’t worth it to them.
“Yeah sorry but I had it. Now with Cena gone and Roman shoved to the midcard spot, I’m done. No ones going to pay $30 a month watching Cody main event PLEs”
Another fan commented that they won’t be paying the $30 monthly fee and said they’ll find other ways to watch the shows without subscribing, saying, “Yeah not paying it, there will be ways to watch.”
Another fan pointed out that most U.S. fans likely won’t pay $30 a month in today’s tough economy. They also mentioned that with VPNs and free clips on social media, many people will find other ways to keep up without paying.
“Highly doubt the majority of their US fans will be coughing up $30 a month in this economy in the age of VPNs and when short social media clips will suffice.”
Another fan said they probably won’t be watching WWE Premium Live Events next year unless they use a VPN to pretend they’re in Canada, where the events will stream on Netflix.
“Welp, looks like I’m not going to watch WWE PLEs next year…unless I buy a VPN and virtually move to Canada to watch them on Netflix.”
WWE’s move to ESPN’s new $29.99 streaming service is becoming one of the most talked-about and polarizing choices in recent memory. While it could help WWE reach more people and fit into ESPN’s growing streaming plans, the high price is upsetting many loyal fans. Some are now rethinking whether they want to keep following WWE and it’s not hard to see why.
