Santana and Ortiz were one of AEW’s top tag teams but they had been on bad terms for quite a while. Santana eventually left AEW and Ortiz remains absent from AEW but fans have been wondering what their relationship is like now. While speculation continues, Ortiz has now revealed his current relationship with Santana.

While speaking on the Johnny I Pro show, Ortiz was asked about his current relationship with Santana after their past issues. He explained that if it hadn’t been for Santana especially early in his career, he probably wouldn’t have made it this far.

Back then, they depended on each other completely. Ortiz admitted that with the mindset he has now, he would be confident making it on his own but in his early twenties he was a different person.

Ortiz talked about how sharing the struggles brought them closer like the long 12-15 hour drives, being broke, splitting meals, figuring things out together, sleeping on floors and in cars. They were truly brothers in arms for a long time.

Ortiz believes that without Santana, and likewise without him for Santana, neither would have reached the heights they did in their careers. Now things are different and they’re each on their own separate paths, but he accepts it as just how life goes.

“If it wasn’t for him, especially early on in my career, and for us having each other, I don’t think I would’ve ever made it to this point, to be honest. Now I can confidently say if I had the mentality that I have now, I would 100% make it. But I was a different human being in my early 20s. Us being able to rely on each other — when you struggle with someone, of course you bond with them, you know what I mean? You’re doing those 12-15 hour drives, we were both broke, we’re sharing food with each other, figuring it out, sleeping on floors, sleeping in cars.

Yeah man, we were definitely brothers in arms for a really long time. Honestly, if it wasn’t for him — and vice versa, me for him — I don’t think we would’ve made it to the point that we made it to in our careers. Now, sadly, we’re doing the journey by ourselves, but it is what it is. That’s just life and kind of how things happen.”

Mike Santana is currently thriving in TNA Wrestling and made appearances on NXT television while Ortiz has been away from AEW television and competed in indie events. Regardless, we’ll have to see if they will ever reunite again somewhere down the line.
