Kenny Omega’s AEW Revolution status just got a lot clearer — and it turns out the company had much bigger plans before his Japan commitments got in the way.
During a Self Made Session on February 16, 2026, it was revealed that AEW originally intended for Omega to face Swerve Strickland at Revolution. However, those plans were scrapped due to Omega’s prior obligations in Japan during the same weekend. Instead of taking place at the pay-per-view, the match is now set for the February 18 edition of AEW Dynamite.
“Kenny Omega and Swerve—we’re lucky we’re getting that on a TV episode because it was originally planned for Revolution, but Kenny has other commitments in Japan.”
Omega is currently scheduled to appear at Capcom Cup 12 in Tokyo, a major Street Fighter 6 tournament that runs through the same weekend as Revolution. With confirmed meet-and-greets and the tournament finals landing on the same day as the pay-per-view, the travel logistics made it nearly impossible to lock him in for the show.
This explains why Omega’s Revolution involvement has felt uncertain in recent weeks. Rather than risk last-minute complications, AEW pivoted and moved the match to television. While some fans may have expected Omega vs. Swerve to headline a major event like Revolution, the silver lining is that the match is still happening — just sooner and on free TV.
Do you think AEW made the right call moving Kenny Omega vs. Swerve Strickland to Dynamite, or should they have found a way to keep it on the Revolution card? Let us know below.
