WWE originally had entirely different plans for Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss at the SummerSlam Premium Live Event.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed the original plans for Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam. The two were originally supposed to face each other in a match. However, because their team has been doing well, WWE decided not to rush the breakup.
The situation is being compared to the storyline between Randy Orton and Matt Riddle, which was only supposed to last a few weeks but ended up going for about a year. It’s unclear if Charlotte and Alexa’s partnership will last that long, but the initial idea was for them to team up briefly and then quickly start a feud. For now, that plan has been delayed.
“So that match originally was going to be Charlotte and Alexa Bliss against each other. So the idea was that they figured the team was doing well, so why rush it? It was kind of like a Randy Orton, Matt Riddle thing—which, remember, that was supposed to be a three-week thing and ended up lasting like a year or whatever.
So I don’t know if this is going to go for a year, but the idea—the original idea for SummerSlam, I mean, the original idea for the team—was that they were going to split up right away and feud. But that has apparently been delayed.”
Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez are set to defend the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles against Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss at the SummerSlam Premium Live Event. Therefore, we’ll have to wait and see if Bliss and Flair will end up winning the titles when all is said and done.
